Abandoned Cart

What is it?

The abandoned cart functionality allows you to track and chase up uncompleted orders in your checkout. For example, suppose someone adds a product to their checkout but never completes the purchase, our platform will record this after a certain amount of time and will let you see those entries so that you can send them an email to remind them of their incomplete order or send them a discount code to indulge them further to finalize the purchase.

How does it work?

The abandoned cart feature is triggered when a certain amount of time has passed since the Visitor added items to their cart and did not complete the purchase in their checkout.

How to set it up?

In your Store -> Settings -> General; you will find a setting allowing you to select the time after which the order will be classed as "Abandoned". You can also choose not to track these orders by selecting the option "Do not track abandoned carts"

How to use it:

There are multiple ways in which abandoned cart can be used to help with your E-commerce solution.
First, it allows you to track how many of all orders end up being abandoned. You can see this metric by going to your Store Dashboard -> Abandoned Carts.

Additionally, you can look up each Abandoned order by going to your Orders tab -> Abandoned. Each one will contain information, just as any regular order does.

Secondly, it allows you to follow up on incomplete orders by creating an Abandoned Cart automation. This automation will trigger a sequence of steps, including sending reminder emails or anything else that Automations allows you to do. If you go to Emails & Automations -> Automations -> + Create Automation, if you don't already have one for Abandoned Cart, you will be asked if you want to create such. If yes, there will be a readily available template with steps already added to it. You can configure anything on there as it is fully editable.

When the abandoned cart trigger doesn't trigger?

Abandoned cart relies on collecting the User's email to track the order's state. For example, if a Visitor adds items to their cart but never reaches their checkout, where they would usually type their email - the functionality won't trigger since it cannot obtain any useful information for you to use going forward. However, if the User reached the checkout and entered their email but does not complete the order - the abandoned cart will track it.
